Last Lecture by UP Prop Winnie Monsod

This is a video of Professor Winnie Monsod last lecture to her UP students. The video went viral given the reactions and comments from her former students, other UP grads, and Filipinos all over the world.

I take no offense to most of what she said because for one thing I am not a graduate of UP Diliman whose lecture I believe was meant for. Referring to all UP students:

"If you are going to help this country, you've got to be in the country. If any of you have little ambitions of going abroad so that you can earn more, please disabuse yourself, because by doing that you are essentially betraying the people in the Philippines who trusted you and who invested their money in you," she said.

The irony is most of our Philippine leaders came from UP and yet, look where we are now?

So much for that honor and excellence I guess!

if you really watched and listened to her, she had something to say about that 'irony' you were saying. i believe too that her words weren't solely for her students.

Hey, if you are a UP scholar, you owe it to the govt/Filipino people to pay back what they spent on you to get thru college. I think that's who Prof Monsod was referring to.

s

kung kalahati lang o one fourt lang ang bayad mo sa tuition, kasalanan ba ng mag-aaral yon? the school itself set the standards on what amount to pay when you qualify
to go there. all the studends needs
to do is do well and pass their chosen course and graduate.gratitue should come both ways.dapat magpasalamat ang estudyante sa university because they were able to maximize what the
school is offering. the school because they ewre able to do their job.to those people trying to help
and doing whatever they can abroad,
maraming salamat, at hindi kayo nakakalimot. maliit o malaking tulong is tulong. we should look at it that way. if you ever come to
my 3rd honeymoon ms. monsod, you are very welcome to watch or even
join... you will enjoy it, promise.

she's right in every way. in fact, there's brain-drain now in the phil bec those educated ones from the best universities usually leave for other countries unfortunately hoping to find a greener pasture. we can't blame them. she herself siad that most of the graduates of UP are now abroad where their brains are being used there for of course, a great sum of money. wawa pinas!
